What is a Gua Sha Stone?
Benefits of using a Gua Sha
Using a Gua Sha increases blood circulation, which at the same time increases the amount of oxygen and nutrients to the skin, which can improve the health of the skin in many ways. The Gua-sha techniques used with these crystals can help with collagen production, reducing puffiness and fine lines. This is where the method provides a kind of "natural botox". It also helps support the lymphatic system, which is our body's main cleansing channel. By cleansing the face of toxins, dark circles and bags under the eyes are reduced, and the face regains elasticity. Using a gua sha can also be a way to give yourself a relaxing and self-loving massage. This is only a small part of the benefits of gua sha, because gua sha has also been used for pain relief and the relief of various skin conditions.
How is a Gua Sha treatment done?
You start by cleaning your face free of dirt and make-up and then you drip a few drops of oil or serum over your face. You must not use your gua sha on dry skin, but you must always have some lubrication so that your gua sha can rub smoothly.
Wash your Gua Sha tool and possibly clean it with the smoke from sage or palo santo to cleanse it of old energy. You can also chill it in the fridge before using it as it helps reduce swelling.
Gua Sha for face
Know that all movements should preferably be done 5 times in succession and at a slow pace and on both sides of the face with a movement from the inside out. Breathe and lower your shoulders and relax your jaw while doing your gua sha massage.
Neck and throat: Start by rubbing your Gua Sha tool on the neck from top to bottom. Massage the neck free of tension and move your gua sha from top to bottom along the neck. Do the same to the side of the neck and the front of the neck. This opens up the lymphatic cleansing channel, so that the toxins in the face will have a better opportunity to cleanse down along the largest lymph glands along the neck and chest. It also tightens the neck.
Double chin: Move your gua sha from under the chin out to the ear, preferably 5 times. This tightens the chin and minimizes the double chin.
Jaw: Move it from the side of the chin out along the jaw to the ear. This tightens the contours of the jawline.
Cheek: Gently move the long side from inside to outside across the cheek to soften smile lines and lift the face.
Under the eyes: Move the heart shape under the eyes to tighten and lift the cheekbones.
The eyes: Let the gua sha rest over the eye and rub it away slowly. Feel into the energy of the crystal here.
Forehead: Scrape it across the forehead, both from the bottom up and from the inside out.
Finish by rubbing it under the hairline in the middle of the forehead all the way down the side of the head to carry all the toxins down the neck and chest and out to the great cleansing channel of the lymphatic system.
Gua Sha for body
You can also use a gua sha on the body by scraping over a specific area until it turns red. It can be used to relieve pain in the body and to minimize cellulite on the thighs.
